FIA GT FAA VW Mk2 Golf GTI Racing & Classic Touring Car Championship 2010, Watch video and on board camera of Spear, Marc, Chris & Gareth in the first round of the 2010 FAA Volkswagen Golf GTI Championship Cup & touring Car Championship, which is sponsored by Parrot Bluetooth & Colombes professional Racing.

PRESS RELEASE:

Peter Bowermans (aka Spear) first race out in the FAA Golf GTI and Touring Car Championship round last weekend at the Guadix circuit could not have gone better. After a very respectable 4th place in race one, he managed to drive his way through the grid in race two and take 1st place and the winners trophy.

Peter makes up a team of four British GT racers who have formed the team XXX Custom Motorsport, which will compete in this years Golf GTI and Touring Car Championship. After finishing fourth in race one, I was all fired up and ready for battle in race two he said There was loads of great action and side by side racing, all throughout the grid and managing to take first place and the winners trophy was a dream start for me.

Golf GTI racing is a very popular form of motorsport across Europe and found its way to Andalucia last year. This class is comparatively cheap to enter in to, and because of this is generating a lot of interest.

The classic Mk2 Golf GTI's will race with the classic touring cars between each round of the main FAA Touring Car Championships. The GTI championships will have their own trophies and winners prize money of 3000 euros.

The cars have to be a Mk 2 Golf GTI 1.8cc with 8 valves, the cars have to remain fairly standard apart from the regulation race kit which includes: racing suspension, anti roll bars, engine mounts, racing brakes, straight through exhaust, roll cage, 6 point harness, fire extinguisher, F1 cut off switches etc. that have to be fitted.

There will be 12 races to be held throughout the year in Andalucia that will take in circuits such as Jerez, Ascari, Monteblanco and the Tabernas circuit in Almeria.

They have to be 8v to qualify for the race regulations, I guess 16v GTi's are too young too participate. Still good cars tough, not so epic as the mark one, but still crazy cool

  • Why not GTI 16V, Why drive GTI 8V?

  • where drive this championship?
