Solitaire from The Carpenters.

There was a man
A lonely man
Who lost his love
Through his indifference

A heart that cared
That went unshared
Until it died
Within his silence

(*) And solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him
Takes him down
And by himself it's easy to pretend
He'll never love again

And keeping to himself
He plays the game
Without her love
It always ends the same
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire

A little hope
Goes up in smoke
Just how it kills
Goes without saying

There was a man
A lonely man
Who would command
The hand he's playing

  • This tore me up. I've always felt sad with this song. I've always loved the Carpenters. What makes me even sadder is seeing this video. I come from total humble surroundings but tonight I have plenty of food and a nice soft bed to sleep in. Tomorrow I have a job to go to.. And for the rest of my life, I want to give to someone else after watching this video.

  • Beautiful but very sad

  • This is what the United States has come to my friends. THE U.S. is rotten to the core and it is getting worse by the day.

  • Great song by the best female voice of all-time.

  • makes me sad and is still beautifull,

  • Big Carpenters fan..voice of an angel..RIP Karen

  • Humans get what they deserve...

  • It was about me. Long story short- when she returned, I was changed and I lost the best thing I ever had through my indifference. I have regretted it my whole life. The benefit is that through Facebook I was able to see what had become of her and apologize for what I had done.

It doesnt change the loneliness for all of the years but does relieve the guilt. May none of you relate to this song.

  • There but for the grace of God go I

  • Kind of hurts to realise this song could easily be about you...

  • wow,

  • real life... real world... so SAD !!!
