This is the story of the Native Corporation Logging that took place around Hoonah. This is how a outside controlled corporation took over the land stewardship values of the Hoonah Tlingits.

  • A person doesn't watch this, a person feels it. The feeling is not good.

  • Please, for all those who love the Tongass National Forest -- as what little remains of the nation's and planet's intact temperate rainforest -- do not be fooled by Sealaska Native Corporation. Senate bill S 881 will allow Sealaska Corp. to continue to do what they have always done -- clearcutting vast swaths of oldgrowth.

They are not working in the best interests of the tribes they claim to represent, and are responsible for tragic socio-economic plights of native villages on the Tongass.

  • The presentation of the Sealaska bill by Don Young and Sealaska's management here on Youtube was produced by an Sealaska employee's spouse. Comments in opposition are blocked or you would have been directed to this video. "Hoonah's legacy" is now "Sealaska's legacy."

  • I'm 1/2 Athabaskan Indian, My thoughts on all the clear cutting is bullshit. Oregon don't even clear cut any more, We do more logging than anybody. Why cant those people learn from anybody. It's nothing but pure greed.

  • 881 was drop kicked the new numbers are s730 HR1408 be on the look out. The bill is so a few native leaders can live in luxury while 70% of Sealaska shareholders live below the poverty line.

  • With all Sealaska's money and Attorney's no individual or Corporate law suit has ever been filed for libal.

Sealaska wanted no attention drawn to this video "Hoonah's Legacy."

  • I am a tribal member of HIA and Sealaska and Huna Totem Shareholder. HIA does not make a stand on much, they did right in producing this piece. ANCSA corps have fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders - they abused that. It is up to the tribal gov board to request formal removal of this video - not Marlene Johnson's son.

  • This video does not represent the current views of the Hoonah Indian Association. It may have represented the views of a portion of the tribe at the time at the time it was produced, however its use of out of context imagery is intended to mislead and distort rather than inform. HIA, which owns the video, has requested this video be removed by the poster.

  • Everything made by timber can be made by hemp in lands already cleared.

Kookesh should work on making pot legal instead of taking kickbacks for this rape of the land.

  • Hello. Thank you for putting this documentary together. I feel like you have pulled this right out of my memory and made it possible for me to convey the issue. There are other ways to raise funds, paper and building supplies that are more Eco-friendly (just think outside the box). This way is such a terrible wrong.

  • And if you ever run across folks cheering about the validity of FSC-certified wood products companies, you now have all the evidence you need to call those liars out. Sealaska....another fine, caring FSC-certified land rapist.
