"What is That Thing?".
Palais Royal Dance Band directed by Ed Burnham (Jay Wilbur).
Vocal refrain by Fred Latham.
Eclipse no. 878.
Recorded London, December 12th 1934.

Well here is the second rendition of this tune in this 'compare and contrast' exercise. There is a change in style from 1931, which version do you prefer?.

Fred Latham was singing with Jack Jackson at this period.

  • My Lord these little records pack a punch!!! All 12 in my collection are to die for!!! This one is just FANTASTIC!!!!

  • For dancing I chose this one it's great...

  • Smashing indeed! I adore these early-30's Jay Wilburs - such a rich sound and a good arrangement too.

  • I like this one better, love the upbeat orchestration...I shall say it is SMASHING? Love the lyrics and the vocal.

So,just WHAT IS THAT THING? :-)))))

Is that a Radiogram? It sure has a great sound. Thank you.

  • I agree; not only sound is much better, but I also prefer the arrangement.

  • Never heard this song before.Like this version better i think due to the big rich sound of the band.
