As an employee, I had the privilege of "deadheading" in the cab of 2716 from Hayne Yard to Charlotte, NC. Very bouncy engine.....and LOUD! I can't believe its been almost 30 years ago since I was up there!

We had this whistle on the 819 in 89 & 90. It belonged to Tom Long. He had loaned it to Bill to use in 81. On the way back from St.Louis in 90 we blew the whistle off outside Calarden AR. It had a 2&1/2in valve body with a 2&1/4 nipple brazed to it & the weld brook. Darrel Cason

Southern 2716. What a jewel. It's unfortunate she was returned to C&O livery but I understand why. I wish the Southern hadn't given up on her so quickly. This is the way she was meant to look. Awesome!!!!!!

@JeremySchultz7 2716 needs 2 stay C&O, and never wear Southern Colors again

What happened to 2716? Why would it cost so much money to restore it?

C&O 2716 is now on static display at THE KENTUCKY RAILWAY MUSEUM in New Haven, Ky south of Bardstown and Louisville....she probally will never run again...the last time she ran was in Logansport, Indiana back in 1996 on the T.P.& W.
She'll never run again UNLESS we do something about it. I emailed the executive director of the Kentucky Railway Museum. He said if any group of railfans could give $1, 000, 000 or better, then the 2716 could run again in her Southern livery someday. Other than that, its hopeless... So sad.
