Our 2008 DeSmet Robotics Team assisted by members from Kennedy, Parkway North, and Ursuline High Schools. Our design was the only one in St. Louis to feature a scissor lift. The geometry of the elevator automatically ejects the ball at the proper height. Although the "tusks" were designed to break away and be replaced during collision, we amazingly never damaged the original pair. The robot is affectionately named "Manny" after the mastadon character in the Ice Age movies. Thanks to all of the students, teachers, private sponsors, and school administrations for supporting the team. On average to compete, not including travel, FIRST robotics teams spend between $8,000 - $10,000 per year. We could not do it without you!
Congrats Team #1178 for a great season.

  • Wow, this is incredibly similar to ours from 08...

In fact, our team's current VP called your robot the "twin" of ours.

  • We wanted to try something different so this robot was the only one in St. Louis regional to use a scissor lift. This worked pretty well but we geared the drivetrain too low so ours was not as fast as it should have been. Hope you have fun this year and good luck. GO TEAM 449!
