she's like early katarina witt without the charisma.

I appreciate your input, but the said scoring change had been proposed and approved way before Lake Placid.
Names like Janet Lynn, Toller Cranston, Robin Cousins, and Wendy Burge vis a vis Isabel de Navarre, Sergei Volkov, Dagmar Lurz, etc. had more to do w/ it than Poetszch.
Also, in my opinion, there was nothing mediocre about Poetszch's FS at the Olympics. It was quite strong, although I would have personally liked to see Linda Fratianne win as a fellow American.

She was definitely influential. After the 1980 Olympics, the entire scoring system was changed precisely because she had won based on the strength and lead she established after the compulsory figures even though her LP and especially her SP were so mediocre. Nobody wanted someone with such lackluster free skating performances to ever win an important competition again. So yes, you are correct, she was definitely influential.

In earlier years, her skating was light, "snappy," and clean--then she lost those nice qualities a bit, especially around 1979. Still, she remains one of the most influencial skaters of all times in my view.
Also, in response to some of the comments here about the music, if you consider Evelyn Grossmann, Simone Lange, Constanze Gensell, and Karin Hendscheke, everyone one of them pretty much skated to the same "recycled" Poetzsch programs at some point in their careers.

You are SO right about the mix of music!
Interesting to see this. Another Frau Mueller skater - Evelyn Grossmann - used the same music in 1989.
