Drezniak - Change of Heart - 1983 MTV Basement Tapes

QUINCY BAND 'DREZNIAK' ON MTV TONIGHT

(Quincy) - The local new wave group Drezniak will appear tonight in an electronic battle of the bands on MTV (Channel 20 ), the cable television station devoted entirely to music videos.

Drezniak, which recorded its music videotape at Quincy Cable Systems studio with the help of Michael MacNamara, will be on at 10 p.m. with six other bands from around the country,according to a spokesman from MTV in New York

The local musicians answered an ad on MTV by submitting a videotape a month and a half ago.

To enter the competition, the band could not be under contract with any recording company,according to Charles"Chucky" White of Quincy, the bass player and singer for Drezniak.He said they were told a few days ago that the group had been picked.

After six videos are shown, the viewing audience will be allowed to vote on which one they liked the most by calling MTV.

The winner will then be in the finals against three other bands for a chance to win a recording contract with a recording company,EMI America, according to White.

The videotape that Drezniak recorded is "Change of Heart" and was written by the two band leaders,White and Dennis McCarthy or Rosingdale, who plays rhythm guitar and also sings.

"Change of Heart", filmed in Febuary, has been shown a few times on Channel 3, the local cable station, and regularly in several local nightclubs.
White and McCarthy have been playing together for three years. Other band members are Tommy Brosnan on guitar, Carmen Marusich on keyboards and Paul 'Yippa' Iappini on drums.

White said two changes in band members have been made since the video was recorded.

Drezniak, which has not yet recorded an album, will play Saturday night at the Ranch House in Duxbury Beach and will compete in WBCN's Rock n Roll rumble at the club Spit on June 23.

I remember when the Basement Tapes show aired. The thing that stunk was, I was just a kid at the time, so I was never able to stay up and watch it. So it's kinda cool to see what I missed back then, finally!
