the fire burns up the oxygen in the flask, thus air is needed to replace the loss oxygen.
when the egg is place on top of the opening of the flask, it creates a suction, sucking the egg into the flask. this is due to air pressure.

  • Wrong explanation! When you throw the burning paper into the conical flask, the heat from the fire causes the air in the flask to expand and is pushed out of the flask. By blocking the opening of the conical flask with the egg, the cooling air in the flask will contract and thereby creating a reduced pressure in the flask. The external atmospheric pressure will now push the egg into the conical flask.
