Gorgeous, rich, satisfying music from an incredible songstress. Her lyrics and melody is spellbinding and carries me along like a breeze. She is in my heart every time I sing her songs.

Lovely! The melodies and chord progressions are pure Carole King. Timeless.

@pls9927 Very well said! Very sad none the less.

Have to add...I take nothing away from Carole though :)

Wrong....it was given to the shirelles...but didnt work out. Maxine Brown re-interpreted it from thier hashed recording and released it... I have to say Maxines is the best production/interpretation.

@skipper8257 This woman, Carol king was resposible for aprox 120 hits throughout her career. Many most came in the 60's. Where she got these melodies from really amazes me. Song writers are an incredible group to me, and Carol was mabey the top 3 or 4 af all time, Just google her hits, and you will be amazed, She and Jerry were a great team. But The Lord gave her a special gift.. and she used it well..I would love to see her story in a film..Martin Scorcesse, are you listening???

Carole's vocals are the best version of this beautiful song! Makes you want to sing along from the heart. We've all been there.

@jilhal24 Funny how Lou Adler said that no one would ever return her demos because everyone liked them so much. Whatever technical flaws she may have vocally, she more than compensates with great sense of rhythm, phrasing, and understanding of structure. I'd much rather hear Carole King sing with her piano than listen to someone belt, go into histrionics, and shout look at me and forget the song. Dusty Springfield, a superior vocalist, kept Carole's demos and treasured them to her death.

Its almost indescribable, who good she was at comming up with all those melodies back in the 60's & 70's. And could sing pretty dams good too.

I don't know any song by Carole that I love (though I like a lot of hers) , except this one. She wrote it and does a fine job of singing it.

This song captures the exact moment when we find out that the one we poured our love into has had someone else.
Carole King = songwriter genius.

Yes, she did. She wrote the music and her husband Gerry Goffin wrote the lyrics. Who do you think DID write it? Maxine Brown?
