Btw, our "european" carmagazine says that VW is making a new jetta for us market that is made cheaper (than older jetta) and is to attack the market of cheaper cars that are usually american. Seems like VW hasn't made it that well in the US. Being of abit cheaper german car manufacturer but maybe when imported their price is way higher compared to other cars in the market. Although better quality, but still too high compared to even higher quality cars like bmw and audi. I presume..

Misthbusters lost all credibility by making advertising like that. Cleary Volkswagen paid for that, there is no others way to make them so enthusiast.
Question to Mithbusters: Why have you put your critical mind at OFF? Money?
-
Sad, but money is money.

3.5% CO2 is nothing special for a modern common-rail diesel engine, 3ppm HC is spectacular however - this is likely to be the DPF version of VWs TDI's which captures diesel particulates in the exhaust pipe and kills them off once up to temperature. The scarf test is a fix though, pump the accelerator to get the diesel puff as the turbo spins up and the scarf would be black as soot! I'll bet 70mpg is easy in this car though

Yes, they were very brief flashing that screen all right. it really is basically an ad for the Jetta Diesel. I have to say, despite their sleight of hand, I would like to see one up close.

**They hid the truth**
How is this posible considering Discorvry Channel is owned by Time/Warner/Turner and likes to plug AGW Sensationalist documentries as well?
If it could produce 100% Co2 they would have trumpted on it
I'm suprised Grant and Carrie got away with as much as they did
Notice they only flashed the Screen for a split second in editing and said nothing about the other numbers which was also low (CO,VOC)
-
Diesels use tons of air (mostly inert Nitrogen), and because they burned the fuel completely, you get only a small % of CO. The 3.5% Co2 is close to stoichiometric ideals for the fuel they used.
They hid the truth, because it IS 3.5%, but of HOW MUCH? There's tons of air going thru. The fuel still gets burned, turned to CO2 and water, and some tiny amounts of CO and VOCs
-
Now to :34 and pause when the Screen of the Spectrometer shows
3% Hydrocarbons,.03 C0, 3.5% CO2, 15.4%
O2, 0% VOC
Hardly the 100% CO2 that Environuts and AGW devout claim...isn't it?
Really, really lame. They should have just came out straight and said "VW paid us a shitload of cash, so buy this car!".

Looked up the California Standards
Cars have to emmit no more then 323 grams of co2 per mile
This car emmits 68 grams per mile
So the environuts 23 gallons of Co2 from 1 gallon of gas = BUSTED
