How would England be today if William the Conqueror had to cope with such a spirited oponent like Mr Churchill?

Yeah, one of my grandads, who was too young to join when war started, joined the Home Guard and was given broomsticks. When he and his partner (an old timer who had fought the Zulu's in Isandwana) had to patrol the reservoirs, my grandad carried his broomstick, while the old guy had a blunderbuss!
The next year he joined up proper, still under age.
My other Gdad was posted in the Middle East and North Africa.

If ever throughout all British history did the right man come along at the right time, it was Churchill.

My grandfathers were involved in W.W.II. My one grandfather was in charge of prepairing troops for battle, except that they did not have any guns! They had to use mop brooms to pratice, they were that short of guns. My other grandfather rode his motorcycle around England & Europe giving the messages to the Allies' camps. He said that there were no maps or roadsigns (they were taken down to prevent the Germans from knowing where they were going).
