On 8 June 2004 the planet Venus passed directly between the Sun and the Earth. A group of observers from the Toronto Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada gathered on the Scarborough Bluffs for the event. Although Venus orbits the Sun every 224 days, circumstances limit transits to occur only twice every 120 years. The next Transit of Venus will occur on 6 June 2012, and the event will not happen again until the year 2117.
