La epoca de mis papis.. Eric Nelson, conocido mundialmente por Ricky Nelson, nació en Teaneck (New Jersey) el 8 de mayo de 1940. Su padre, Oswald George "Ozzie" Nelson, era un músico reconocido en los años 30, era lider de su propia "Big Band" y cosechó un número 1 en 1935 con el tema "And Then Some". Su madre Harriet Hilliard era actriz de cine, de no mucho renombre.

En 1941 la familia Nelson se traslada a Hollywood, su padre cansado de recorrer el país con su banda, consigue trabajo como "Band Lider" en el programa de radio de Red Skelton. Compran una bonita casa en el Hollywood High y la familia se instala permanentemente.

En 1944, Red Skelton deja el programa de radio, y la emisora ofrece a los Nelson su propio programa, "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", un espacio radiofónico donde los Nelson se interpretaban a si mismos y donde contaban sus anécdotas y su vida cotidiana. El programa alcanza un gran éxito y pasa por diferentes emisoras (NBC y CBS) hasta terminar en la ABC.

En 1950 y debido al enorme éxito del programa radiofónico, la ABC TV intenta pasarlo a la televisión. Ozzy, muy prudente, insiste en aparecer primero en las pantallas de cine con el único motivo de testar la reacción de la audiencia antes de "tirarse" a la piscina de la televisión, y logra producir una película de bajo presupuesto que será emitida a lo largo del país. "Here comes the Nelsons" (1951) no recaudó mucho dinero, pero si lo suficiente como para que los Nelson cogieran la confianza necesaria como para aparecer en TV.

En 1952 se emite por primera vez "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" en la ABC-TV, 14 temporadas y 455 episodios. Como no podía ser de otra forma, los dos hijos de los Nelson debían aparecer en el programa, y fue de esta manera como Ricky y su hermano mayor David aparecen por primera vez en TV. Ricky era un muchacho bastante tímido e inseguro, pero con el transcurso de los programas fue ganando en soltura interpretativa, de casta le viene al galgo, y su popularidad fue creciendo paralelamente a su desarrollo personal, se puede decir que la audiencia del programa de los Nelson le vieron crecer poco a poco.

@cooltooth112  BTW, I am talking about their current songs written by Nelson and not his old stuff, which is wonderful too. The Stone Canyon Band was a force to be reckoned with.

Rick was a very talented musician and songwriter. someone questioned if he could even play guitar. He certainly could. BTW, he has been given credit by the Eagles for being the one who influenced their sound. In fact Randy Misener was his bass player starting out and he went on to the Eagles. The Stone Canyon Band was an influence on many of the country/rock groups coming out of California.

I always remembered the drummer and his cow bell from this song. Now reminiscing the old times, I keep noticing the drummer and wish I knew him as well as I wish I knew Rick. They were both so underrated. I too wish I could go back in time. At least now we have the modern technology to play them whenever we want. I am going through a phase where I can not get enough, especially the drummer. That life is over but I wish I shared it then.
