The new Calgary Science Centre, officially known as the Telus Spark, had a gala opening on Oct 22 2011. Four years in the planning and construction, $160MM equally from city, province, federal and private funds, it's the first purpose built science centre in Canada in over 25 years. It's origins lay in the original Planetarium in the city, converted and run as a science centre for years until success and a new train transit route forced a new location.
