Timelapse Heliconius Papillon-bibou butterfly emerging from chrysalis.
Filmed in my studio in Oxford. This large butterfly chrysalis had to be kept warm and moist to avoid the butterfly emerging with deformed wings. This sequence used two chryslalis.

My thanks to Stratford Butterfly House for providing healthy chrysalis.

It is incredible that the chrysalis is camouflaged to look like a dead leaf leaf and then such a large butterfly can emerge from such a small chrysalis. I'm delighted that you like the time lapse. Thanks

Another fascinating sequence! I'm sure these sequences would be very useful for teaching in schools.

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, it would be nice if teachers wanted to show the sequences to their students. I'm not sure how many teachers surf Youtube though. If anyone knows how to let teachers know, I'd be very keen to hear any advice. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you slacktiveAction. Glad you like the time-lapse. It involved getting up very early for quite a few mornings as I have to be there to start the time-lapse. Mind you the studio is very warm so that's quite nice considering it's cold and wet outside.
