visual instruction of the mock rib stitch. I used size 9 needles and Paton's SWS (wool & soy fiber) self-striping yarn in natural pink. This pattern has a 4 stitch repeat, when casting on add 2 more. I cast on 26 stitches to make a 6 1/2 inch wide scarf. knit, knit, knit in the back loop, purl....repeat every row.

  • whats the dif between "front and back door?"

  • the front door would be the front loop of the stitch when knitting garter stitch. the back door would be using the back loop of the stitch when knitting garter stitch. i just said to remember my place. the pattern is knit, knit, knit in the back loop, purl. repeat these 4 stitches until the end of the row, do this pattern every row.

  • I'm in love with your work! It's so pretty!

How many to cast on? This is my first time knitting and purling together, and every time I knit 2 and then purl 2 it always ends up not looking like a stitch when I start a new row. It got so frustrating that I stopped, but I'm sick to death of the garter stitch!

  • thank you :D i think it turned out nice too!

oh man, i don't remember! and i don't have the scarf anymore. the pattern is in multilples of 4 stitches + 2. the scarf was 8 inches wide. a little too wide for my taste. i used size 9 needles, paton's SWS yarn and i'm a loose knitter. i am making a new one with 22 stitches and it is 6 inches wide. much better width for me. :D
