video demo of Advance hand and foot placement for Cheetah Sprint Start during a real sprint work out. Cones are set at 5, 10 and 20 meters. 3 pt /4 pt stance. 6x5m, 5x10m, 2x20m walk back recovery. workout is to work on start and first 3 to 4 steps, start to 7th step and start to 10 and transition from 10 to 20m. This my first speed workout of the off season. No blocks

  • I am not trying to power my way through the start. I want to use the power I have more efficiently.

  • Blocks are faster. When you start off a horizontal surface, friction between your shoes and the ground is the only force that moves you forward. When pushing off an angled surface, the surface applies an equal force against your feet, allowing you to start running with more force. Essentially, pushing off a horizontal surface allows for more force to be applied because friction AS WELL AS the counter force to the movement of your feet increase the net force. More force = faster start.

  • Blocks slide backwards, that is why they have people hold them and they still slide backwards. So at that point and time you are losing traction not getting it.

  • Your first steps are too large! You loose a lot of time and explosiveness by the long time of ground contact! Furthermore your body's center of gravity is too low above the ground! Because of this you loose power pushing you forward... Your hips are also flexed too much!

  • Your really know your stuff man, thanks a lot, this has really helped me with my starting technique. I watch these video's before I race which is probably 3 times a week. Thankyou so much.
