  • They're available on line, for what that's worth. Up here in Seattle there used to be a store called Lark In The Morning that stocked them. They're still in business down in California. Another source might be Elderly Instruments. Apart from that, I dunno -- they sell them in Mexico. I got mine at a Guitar Center, used. In any event, they ain't cheap. Mine was $600 five years ago. I'd definitely try to hear the instrument before I bought.

  • that's some freaky playing, brother. I have some questions about the guitarron, if you wouldn't mind. is it audible against a couple of acoustic guitars? A standard acoustic bass guitar is too soft to be heard when played in a group, and I was hoping the guitarron could substitute in that situation favorably. very cool playing and cool song. thanks.

  • @WellConditionedChimp Thanks for the comment. The guitarron isn't as loud as a conventional upright bass, but it holds its own quite nicely in a campfire jam session. In addition, the fretless neck and ginormous body give it a whole lot of upright vibe. I refer to it as a "sitdown" bass (although it's easily played standing up). The only things holding it back from universal acoustic music acceptance are a lack of supply and that it's too dang gawdy.
