  • I am a professional instrumentalist. I definitely do appreciate music without words. I have earned the Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Music Education. However I defend my position that words help to convey the meaning of instrumental music which is abstract sound however expressive it might be.

  • @Flextones so does that mean you can only absorb music that has words and cant really appreciate great works without lyrics? To me, when people add lyrics to songs that are already great it degrades the piece, You wouldnt try to add anything to a Picasso to try and make it better or different would you?

  • Words really do humanize music. Music is abstract even though it functions in the psychomotor domain which effects human feelings, Words have cognitive domain meanings. A bass violinist friend had recommended this tune for me to check out. I looked at the music but I wanted to hear other people's rendtions of it. The words make it easier to absorb, than if it was all instrumental.
