Senator Durbin does not know what's in the Healthcare bill

What happens when Senator Dick Durbin is exposed to a townhall type format and has to take questions from constituents? I question Senator Durbin about the bill at 2:04 in the video.


Senator Dick Durbin appeared on Chicago Tonight, which airs on the main PBS station in Chicago, WTTW Channel 11. He was part of the panel on a special healthcare episode. This is the closest Durbin has come to participating in a townhall since he stated they are not a good use of his time. He also advised other members of congress to avoid townhalls so they don't get "sucker punched" by their constituents.

Durbin doesn't know what's in the bill, or at least claims not to know. Individual mandates are definitely part of the house bill, HR 3200. Individual mandates are also included in drafts of the Senate bill and are supported by Chairman Max Baucus.

Just finished my 2009 tax return & getting ready to cut my check to feed the beast the balance of what it didn't devour throughout the year. Never have I been angrier to cough up my "fair share" before. Guess I'm making a down payment on the "free" world-class healthcare I'll be receiving in 4 more years. Ha! 03/23/10 - House HC bill signed into law by Pres. BO. This is also the day back in 1775 when Patrick Henry made his famous statement "Give me liberty or give me death" - strange coincidence. There may be a bittersweet silver lining for my particular industry (hospice) if, despite our best efforts, this HC monstrosity does indeed become law. The gov't will be cutting costs everywhere they can, of course, and since hospice is generally less costly than traditional aggressive medical treatment, many older citizens will be referred to end-of-life care in much higher numbers. Hurry up and die already, people! But I'm sure the gov't will find a way to destroy hospice care too, eventually.
