This is a short film that underscores the concept of eating locally and how it relates to environmental sustainability.
The video focuses on community farms and how they help to educate our next generation to the relevant issues contained within the Millenium Development goals, particularly goal #7.
Visiting a local elementary school we learn what kids today understand about sustainability and where our food comes from. Actions taken in educating the schoolkids about this topic included a brief discussion and then helping them plant their own tomato plants, nurture them, and reap the benefits of their harvest once matured.
Meet Izzy and her own backyard garden as she picks, cleans, and eats a carrot that she grew. Along the way she'll tell us why her carrot is crunchier, tastier and fresher that one you get at the supermarket.
Then we'll meet Jericho Bicknell at the Waltham Community Farm in Massachusitts. She is the program and outreach coordinator and her camps focus on impoverished inner city kids and making the connection between food and where it comes from.
