There are many ways to approach finding the solution to a system of equations. The simplest may be using the graphing method. This method relies on concepts we already know. Once we graph both equations on the coordinate plane, the point of intersection represents the solution to the system. Follow along with the example below.

In this video, you will take two linear equations in the standard form, convert them to the slope-intercept form, and use the y-intercept (b) and the slope (m) to plot the lines. Their point of intersection is the solution of the system of equations.

  • my slope is a whole number, is that okay?

  • how do i solve this one 6x+15y=-12 -2x-5y+9

  • TY

  • I can do it even easier than this him: 2x+5y=20 6x-3y=6 First of solve the first equation, by removing either 5y or 2x, like: 2x/2=20/2 x=10 then, 5y/5=20/5 y=4 Now draw a line by x=10 and y=4 Then start with the second equations 6x/6=6/6.....x=1 3y/3=6/3......y=-2 'Now draw a line by x=1 and y=-2 The solution is and intersection is: 2.5, 3
  • Thank you so much. You explained it great. I couldn't understand my teacher she confused the heck out of me. Your amazing.

  • omg ur a life saver.. you made this as simple as possible.. thanks =)
