What triggers the frame line selector is actually a small feeler in under the lens flange, right next to the manual frame selector. It is right under the lens retention spring (what holds the lens bayonet firm against the lens flange) If you remove the lens and turn the manual frame selector, you will be able to see the feeler moving in correspondence.
As mentioned earlier, the lever mounted roller you saw moves back in forth with the lens helicoid, that is your rangefinder coupling.

Nice review. What type of Zeiss that you have it on?

The round piece of metal inside the mount is for focus purpose only. As you focus the lens, its rear element moves back and forth, and pushes or lets go the lever.

That's a 50mm Zeiss Planar f/2. Available in silver or black. Highly recommend it as an alternative to very expensive Leica glass. You can pick one up for about $800+
