Medieval 2 Total War Online Battle: Holy Roman Empire (HRE) vs Venice

I was planning a pike and shot renaissance type of army for a long time but i didn't find the right situation to use it online for a week or two. Finaly i decided to go for it yetsreday and these are the results.

I had my doubts about using the HRE since Musketeers would have been better for these tactics but in the end it had to be the HRE because of the Reiters. I also thought about using Zweihanders instead of Dismounted Imperial Knights for supporting the Landsknecht Pikemen and i think i'll give that variation a go in a future battle.

All in all it was a very fun battle and a good opponent. 15k, standard rules.

Anyway my army is composed of:

- 4 Arquebusiers
- 4 Dismounted Imperial Knights
- 4 Landsknecht Pikemen
- 2 Zweihander
- 3 Gothic Knights
- 2 Reiters
- 1 General Bodyguard unit

Used FRAPS to capture it and Windows Live Movie Maker to edit it so it's nothing "fancy". My PC is also crappy so it affects the quality naturally.

Thank you for watching and i hope you'll enjoy/already enjoyed.

P.S: Sorry for any typos.
P.P.S: In a dictionary there probably is a picture of the Reiters next to the word "cool".

  • Quess whats wrong with you formation? If you enemy flank you with his inf, you must take you inf against them, and formation brakes.

  • @TheRomanRuler

I disagree. That's why the ranks of the Imperial Knights and the Landsknecht are overlapping. The Imperials can turn and face the other way or to the side while the pikes buy time and hold the enemy off. Plus don't forget the two units of Zweihander in reserve - they are the first to move in action if my opponent tries to overpower a wing with inf (actually take a close look at my left in this battle me opponent tried to do exactly that but the line did hold).

    Cheers

  • @AcoDaGr8 Are you in effect describing a similar formation structure to the Roman legionary checker board system?

  • @infokemp @infokemp

Not quite. It's a straight pike line overlapping with heavy infantry, with arqs in front, some inf in reserve, reiters on one wing and heavy cav on the other. It needs some micromanagement but it's great, very versitile and tough to punch a hole through.

BTW, if you have the time, please do check some of the newer vids from my playlist. They are in HD, with voice commentary and most importantly the tactics used here have... "evolved" a bit ;)

    Cheers

  • tried my trick didn't ya :P

    good work :D

  • @hochmeisterjer Finally actually. I chickened out of the idea a couple of times just before a MP battle before i gave it a go (was mostly worried when i though i'd be facing Janissaries, Cossacks or a Musketeer spam).

Works like a charm now ;)
