  • If you think this man is wrong, you are taking what he is saying way out of context. He is saying we need more fact-finding, comprehensive reporting and less pre-packaged, corporate news-releases and celebrity gossip. Open your ears people, not all government agencies are out to get you.

  • the FCC are just a bunch of fascists. 100 years ago a piece of shit like this would've been shot.

  • Very scary. He should just run media in North Korea where he'd be very comfortable. Perhaps he's not heard of the internet. There is a lot of news there, it may just not express his point of view.

The government deciding what is "acceptable" news is common in many dictatorial countries, hopefully he won't move us in that direction in the US!

  • "If you are not free to choose wrongly and irresponsibly, you are not free at all."

  • Seeing this scum bag trampling on our freedom of speech makes me sick to may stomach. This country is looking more and more like a Latin American dictatorship. If we don't stand up to these parasites and say enough is enough we are doomed as a nation. The "volume of news" this spineless pin head is talking about is the manipulated, sanitized and bias news we are getting today form the corporate controlled media. In other words the FCC wants to control EVERYTHING we hear and say in the Internet.

  • Sorry, but I am not "wrong". There is no difference between NBC, CBS, ABC, and "opinion" news. One comes out and states their position while the other claims to be "hard" news. You call it lying, I call it a distinction without a difference.

The Koch brothers? How about the Ford Foundation, Media Matters, Greenpeace? They all give millions to espouse their point. I don't care.

My original point stands. More opinions not less. Less FCC involvement not more.

  • @peeweesmellyrat @peeweesmellyrat No your wrong. Opinion news is someone giving facts then giving there opinion on that fact. Distorting actual news is lieing not opinionating.

Watch that youtube clip. The Koch brothers gave millions of dollars to distort information to get voters like you and me paranoid and scared about information that wasn't even true only for the benifit of themselves not the viewer.

  • @chasm47000

Distorted news = opinion. One is distorting the "facts" through one's opinion, so actually the commissioner is describing opinions. I want more organizations reporting news and I will decide what conclusions to derive. I want the FCC to have less authority, not more. I believe Mr. Copps suffers from "elitist" syndrome where he is stating that he should protect/filter us from more information. Thank you Mr. Copps, but I will decide for myself.....

  • @peeweesmellyrat Actually the commissioner is correct. He is not describing opinions he is describing distorted news which is embodied in most news. Today's news is not providing opinions there providing distorted news purposely for the benefit of its shareholders and/or a political objective. That of course hurts a governed democracy. The news needs to provide factual information about daily current events and the viewer should come up with their own conclusion not the reporter or commentator.
