Nobody did it better than Merri Dee. This clip would be rated a fantastic 6 in my book. WGN America Rocks!! Go Cubs!!

Thanks Again!! I truly liked Merri Dee on television. She understood the people and the public outside the television world. She related to the people quite well. All The Best To Merri Dee!! Go Cubs!! WGN America Rocks!! Food For Thought: WGN America should bring back Illinois Instant Riches on Saturday Nights!!

TBS and WGN are practically one in the same. All they show are comedy shows. TBS and WGN of the 80s showed a better variety of shows and movies.
-
Someone get me a time machine so I can go back to the 1980's. God I haven't seen this in years! Those were the days.
-
Anyone seen the old, "The movies on Channel 9" intro song???
-
Whoa! Now that intro sure kicked ass! Thanx 4 uploding this, oldstuff86! :)
-
Very cool!! 80's tv was the best. They don't do anything close to this now a days. Stuff like this is classic and shows how horrible television is today.
-
I love this theme, but does anyone know the older, full band version that WGN played?
-
click on ''quilted northern commercial 1987'' with the little girl standing on her head and you'll see an old wgn bumper. MEMORIES.
-
@mjrprblms Yes indeed, Merri Dee's voice was not only like velvet, but her voice was and still is smooth and sexy and even though she's retired from WGN, she is still going strong thoughout the Chicago Community
Merri Dee is recognizable thoughout Chicago and throughout the country
Thank God for giving us Merri Dee, a woman's voice who is so smooth, so velvet and so sexy
Would you agree?
-
@Christinada5 You got that right as a matter of fact, whenever I see WGN Presents from the 80's, I always think of it as being cool just like SuperStation TBS from 1987-1989
-
OMG Just hearing this late night intro brings back soooo many memories of my childhood growing up in the Chi. Merri Dee's voice was like velvet!! So smooth, she was in the right career big time! Really makes me wish I could relive those times!!!
-
Cool intro. They don't make intros like the ones from back in the day anymore
-
@lespaulstandar i think that'll help bring some of the sentiment back.

I haven't seen the remake either. I feel that when popular movies from years ago are being remade, in general, they won't be as successful as the original. In other words, movie producers try to see if their remake of an original will be as successful or better than the original, but some don't even come close...and probably not do very well at the box office. I'm sticking with the original, because if I buy the remake, it would be money wasted if I don't like it.
-
Yes, I knew there was a remake. But I didnt even bother with it. Friends of mine saw it and said it was awful. And it's a shame b/c Denzel Washington is such a great actor too. He's good in anything, but I refuse to watch to redux of Pelham 123.
-
Indeed it is. It is one of my most favorites. My mom and I have it on DVD now, and I watch it whenever possible. Did you know there was a remake and that it came out in theaters back this past June?

Pelham 123, what a great movie
-
You got that right, and I'm glad that somebody posted this, b/c I use to stay up late and watch WGN Presents.
Nobody does WGN like Merri Dee, even though she is retired from WGN, she is still keeping busy outside WGN, but I'm sure that she will stop by WGN Studios and visit and plus, she was like the Female Casey Kasem when it comes to doing voices.
God Bless Merri Dee and Thank You for all the years that you've done WGN, and I hope that WGN America will keep the old days going.
-
I agree. I'm glad that I got to see it on DVD. My mom said the remake just came out. The movie has become one of my favorites. :)

I agree with you. I saw this intro occasionally (back in the '80s when WGN had late night movies every evening) as a kid, and it was exactly as I remember it. I don't know about the voiceovers, though. It may have been different people doing them and announcing what movie would be shown. This intro has been a favorite of mine since then, and I too wish it would return. Some of the network late night intros today are probably far different than ones from years ago.

Hi!
I actually saw The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three for the first time today. My mom bought it on DVD, and I think it is a great movie. It is now one of my favorites. Kind of funny, but in a dark way, and still quite entertaining. She told me that it is about to be remade.

Hey, this is my favorite Late Night Movie Openings:
WGN Presents
It has everything, the purple color and even the cool neon intro
and plus, the theme is so groovy to dance to
and they have the voice of Merri Dee (The TRUE voice of WGN TV and Superstation)
I would sometimes stay up late and watch it after the 10:00 PM Programming
God Bless WGN and God Bless Merri Dee.
I would LOVE to see this back REAL soon.

its pelham 123

Well good news:
In the Heat of the Night is back on WGN (which is now known as WGN America).
I hear WGN is bringing back late-night movies, well maybe not so late (8 p.m.), on Friday's. It's called Movie Underground and they have some guy dressed up as a security guard hosting the show. Sorta sounds like the good old days and I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully more stations will go back to that kind of thing.
