I installed Remo's skyndeep drum head on my GeF drum. It sounds great. The only disadvantage is that it makes a rubbing sound when you moved your fingers on it in the muted mode. The Mylar head doesn't.

  • I've never used one of these heads, but it sounds great! You describe the rubbing sound as a disadvantage. However, I thought the whole point of this head is to try and replicate the look and feel of natural skin without the constant slackness and variation from humidity changes. I would imagine there are techniques that deliberately take advantage of that textural sound.

  • @rmcdaniel423 you are right, however the standard Egyptian/Lebanese style doesn't use any rubbing sounds. Turkish styles might.

  • Just got my Skyndeep head in the mail today. What a wellmade head compared to what we usually have! Hey, my GEF Doumbek has the exact same pattern as yours!

  • Cool, I wish those egyptian makers wake up and start making quality heads instead of bending some plastic around a wire loop and rap it with some thick foil !!!

  • Hi DrumDoc5. I have been playing the darbuka for about a year and I am really in love with this drum. I have a standard GeF and would like to put a remo head on it but I hear it is really complicated to put it on a GeF because ity is not made for it. Is this true?

  • In a word, WOW! Okay "Drum Doctor", why are you hiding your face? You are one of the best I've heard, okay maybe the best. It's like your extra long fingers were made for all that split finger stuff. It's almost supernatural, or extra-terrestrial, really. ;0) lol Well done and much thanks for posting. It's one of my favorites for a long time.

  • it seems to sound a bit dry, and dampened. I really like the idea and the sound of the skyndeep head. just seems to lose a bit of sustain. but, it does sound good still

  • Nice display of sound variation. Im just a beginner, but I didnt thought of using those type of skin. Im will read and look into it. I got a plastic skin on my Darbuka and its not that great, but to start its okay.

  • Most have found the skyndeep to have a better sound than the fiberskyn.

  • nice sound )

  • Dear drumdoc5: Have you tried the remo fiberskyn? I´m going to send you a message,I need some help about the real head size for my GEF tabla (there are some in the mideast website) Thanks a lot! ;D

  • I've been trying to figure out how to get one for my sumbati.

Where did you get it at?
