The Kodiak snow blowers can "eat" a pile of snow no more than 6 to 7 feet high. The caterpillars and snow cats are used to "shave" the drifts down to that depth. The snow depth at this location is about 9.5 feet. This snow cat is defining the roadway edge so the snow blower driver can follow the path they've established and not run into the guardrail. The large Bombardier snow cat is shown working below Whistler Mountain between Rainy and Washington Pass on Monday.
