a trailer for an upcoming film about the Magificent Men. The Magmen were an innovative, though largely unknown soul group from Harrisburg, PA, that broke many barriers in the 1960's as the first white headliners at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem and early trail blazers of white soul.

  • @franklinman1907 Thanks, I agree. Jerry Blavat will be doing an in-store signing for his book at the end of this month so I'll press "my main man, pots and pans!" for an answer about this. I wouldn't be surprised if this just showed up on public broadcasting all of the sudden one day though. Have a great weekend!

  • @quieterrps I tried contacting the people behind the movie through the website back when it was still up (it's disappeared now), but never received any replies. I still see Bill Richter around and I'll ask him about it next time I see him. I'd love to see it completed too. The Men deserve it!

  • So many things to like about the idea of this. Has this ever moved forward at all and if not why? Would love to see this. Jerry Blavat is totally responsible for turning me on to The MagMen first with his playing Peace Of Mind on his radio show, then I Could Be So Happy and later Stormy Weather. Futhermore hearing them do justice to the Great Curtis Mayfield w/ I've Been Trying in the trailer ~ I'd love to see this!

    All the best and thanks!

  • great story..great voices..

  • After high school graduation in 1968, I lost track of these guys. Fantastic story. Great sound!

  • What a great piece for a group that was sensational! I remember being in school in Boston in 1966 and hearing Stormy Weather. We came up with five or six black groups we thought it was and when the dj said Magnificent Men, we all said who? Later that day, I purchased their album. They should have gotten more recognition around the country.

  • Great sounding music.

  • I remember Tom Pane I saw them play in Hersey Pa around 1969 I was a Flight Attendant for American Flyers! The were Great!

  • Black or white doesn't matter the Mag Men Happened, music is music, I did attend the Uptown and also saw Stevie at the Uptown we were 5 whites in the audience and we had a soulful time. Ake

  • Remember, Rich Jordon, The Fly, Courts, Ake, at the Uptown in the mid Sixties we were not supposed to be there, but it was great, Ake
