Common Rowing Technique Errors

@Monopoli35 It's not st/min that make you go farther, it's how hard you pull. Car analogy: 1st gear 6000rpm goes less distance than 3000 in 4th. So if I pull harder and yet use less strokes per min I can still go farther in less time. Watch the min:sec/500 as your gauge. By rushing the slide you are not using your leg power effectively. You want your leg power to get the chain moving, not to simply get to a point where the weaker back and arms have to do the lion's share of the work.

Thank you very much for the nice vid, I am new to using the rowing machine. I see alot of the errors I have been making. TECHNIQUE!!! ;] I get it lol .

Good things her legs aren't any longer or else she'd be off the rower and in the drink.

Thx u for this post..o tried this machine at gym yesterday and already see my mistakes. I did burn 430 calories is that too low or just right for 30mins? Also my drag was at a 7 and it felt fine. Is this too much for a beginner or just right?

I see rushing the slide as a disadvantage in terms of fitness rowing on indoor machines because you lose some tension on the muscle and don't get as much eccentric stress on the muscles, which some people look at as beneficial. It may be safer to have a more delayed eccentric because if you do it very fast and 'drop' the weight, you might jerk yourself decelerating the handle when you switch the begin the eccentric.
Actual boat-rowing is different though, because there isn't eccentric resistanc

The faster you rush the slide may make your time drop but it will tire you out quicker, focus upon power in the drive, try 10 on 10 off from rate 20 to 28, to focus on how you power your stroke. The greater power you can give to your drive the lower your split will be.

i never did rowing and was afraid of doing it wrong in the gym^^ but this really helped me doing it right, thx :)

why is it ineffective to rush the slide? i know you need more energy to do so, but you can make more strokes per minute, so you can get a higher speed (less time on 500m).
Excellent video. Really demonstrates what a complicated sport rowing is to people say it's easy!
...Although it's killing me to see you on the ergo when there is beautiful water behind you!

@Monopoli35 'Rushing the slide' is something you see most erg rowers doing. The slide is the recovery phase of the rowing stroke. It's slower than the drive phase because (a) it gives the rower chance to 'recover' after the physical exertion of the 'drive', and (b) it helps to prevent the boat from pitching fore and aft which unsettles the boat and slows it down. The 'drive' and 'recovery' phases are usually in the ratio 1:2 or 1:3. It's really an on-the-water thing. Hope this helps.
