A quick look at Morchella Esculenta. One of Michigan's spring time fungi. In Michigan, I think there are more morel pickers than deer hunters !

  • i picked about 11 pounds last year on my acre and a half yard

  • @TOOLMAN09100 Sounds like you had a pretty good year ! I don't know where you're at, but here in Michigan, it was our best year in a long time. I still have 2 gallon jars of them dried. Morels are only about 4 months away, so I better get eating some of them !

  • @grifola eastern Ontario. i cut them up, roll them in flour then freeze them.

  • @TOOLMAN09100 I've never tried freezing them, but I hear that's a good way too. About the only mushrooms I freeze are Hen of the Woods, Chanterelles and a few other polypores that don't dry well, cause they turn leathery. Good luck on this coming season and get some videos posted here !

  • Who needs to eat 4 to 5 HUNDRED morels? don't wipe them out, jeeze

  • @banchie28 I do !! Got over 2,000 this year. I dehydrate them for use all year long. Sauted Morels & diced bacon tastes pretty good with that Wild Thanksgiving Turkey !!

  • @grifola you eat $120,000 worth of em a year?

  • @grifola must be a prevailing species over there. We work our tails off to find them and have not found any big swells of them. I was at the co-op in Minneapolis over the weekend and I saw fresh morels in the produce department. $64.99 per pound! Yep that is why we forage in the wild.

  • @sandworm3 Sounds like the same weather we have here. It's been one of the best seasons in a long time. For the Whites here in Michigan, I look for dead & dying Elm and White Ash. Yesterday was the first time I had a problem with skeeters. They were really bad. I ended up with around 300 Whites and Half free morels in 4 hrs. Not as good as I usually do, but there's been a lot of hunters there though.

  • @sandworm3 We went on a hunt this past Saturday and Monday. Found 17 total whites. It was fun but came with the price of blood. Gnats and ticks! We live in SW Minnesota, seems like you have to work your tail off to find them or the conditions may have been too cold or wet. We are stuck in the 50-70 degree range with a cold spring and wet conditions. Your thoughts?
