The song is about John Muir who left Scotland and his hardline Calvinist Minister father to go to America and become the father of the national Park in California - Yosemite, Grand Canyon and in the preservation of the land including the giant redwoods. Originally written by Brian McNeill of the Battlefield Band then covered by Dick Gaughan.

I heard this song years ago by Ed Miller and always wanted to learn how to play it. Thanks to your video I got the cords down - now I only have to learn to sing like you!

I have just had returned from Yosemite Park which was amazing, stunning beauty which has to be seen. The tall sequoia trees were incrediable !
I had my ipod with me with this song on it ......John Muir is an icon in America !
