October 2002
Seen as the 'gold' crop by Malawians, tobacco accounts for 70% of all exports. But little of the profit goes to the farmers. A massive increase in global tobacco production has sent export prices tumbling. Child labour has become prevalent as families struggle to survive. To blame are giant tobacco companies who keep the bidding for crops artificially low. And millions are left wondering why their profits are going up in smoke.
@kirbeyz youre a fucking ignorant asshole

Capitalist scum, still living of other people's labor and sucking them dry. The people must have the freedom to grow whatever they want to, not just tobacco.
These giant British owned estates must be demolished and turned into farmer coops, where people keep most of what they produce.
Zimbabwe leads the way!

This is real exploitation and oppression. This is exactly what indirect rule breeds. We shall fight harder until these subjects of the Africa Union are now free to be voting the Africa Union Authority President. The people, poor or not, must vote!
