@ azibizs - unfortunately, the sten was renowned for being a very temperamental and unreliable gun, which suffered frequently from jamming. Combining this with the fact that the gun was put together while being concealed under a jacket as not to draw attention means that there may have been a mistake made with it's assembly before the assassination attempt took place.

What a pity Heydrich wasn't captured by good Czech Christians, who could then publicly castrate him before dragging him around town behind a trolley.....bleeding & screaming in agony as we pour gasoline on him, set him aflame, then fire hot-lead into him.........Allelujah!!!

efc23, it had to be done, because of it's "psychological impact" mentioned in the film also. For many people in Czechoslovakia it was just the support they needed - they knew that the resistance had its purpose and that they are not alone in this. It had also a huge international impact - Czechs and Slovaks had been viewed as collaborative nations till then, but after that... it was not so clear.

What a shame the bravery of those men was waisted on such a pointless operation.
If Heydrich hadn't been assinated, the Allies would still have won the war.Too many people died in reprisals to justify the mission.
History gives you the facts......but we are left to wonder how things would have turned out if a different path had been followed.
