@artfuldodga The problem is that the nationally broadcast news channels always have to cut to commercial breaks, except during national emergencies.

If you live near an ocean or a coast you wouldn't feel that nervous with all the moisture in the air and everything. If it rained we would've been lucky. I live near the Pacific Ocean in Ventura County, right near the P.O.. The fires didn't hit here but there was one once in Ventura on a hill but not as bad as this, waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy smaller.

Brings back memories. I live in Fallbrook. Went through the same skys to evacuate up to Temecula. All turned out well thought scary.
Churchill once said "Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." As true today as it was 65 years ago. This tragedy could have been prevented, provided that we learned from what happened 4 years ago.
The county is bankrupt; our firefighters are under-funded; everything is in dire need of repairs; and the politicians are more intent on making more money while everything around burns down. It's funny, though: this is still the best place on the planet.
I weep for our future.
