Across the country, hospitals face a critical nursing shortage, threatening care for millions of Americans. But there's no shortage of qualified applicants at community college nursing programs, which have traditionally trained most of the nurses in this country. The problem is many of those aspiring nurses are stuck on waiting lists—for years— and it's only getting worse.

  • I have been a nurse 13 years, you will get more respect at Mc Ds. TRUST ME, BEING A RN SUCKS, THATS WHY WE HAVE A SHORTAGE. Plenty of people with a RN degree, few want to work at the bedside. EAT SHIT ALL DAY, THATS WHAT ITS ABOUT

  • I thought about going into Nursing, but the sleep-depriving overtime and crappy pay doesn't make me scream with delight.

  • there is no shortage in nurses only they chooses few.

  • If they don't want to be wait listed go to a university and get accepted on merit.

  • there is no nurse shortage there is a shortage of nurse jobs. I have a BSN graduated six months ago and I have only been on two job interviews. My nursing program is ranked 48th out of 1500 nationally I can not even get a minimum wage job as people are ignorant and think there is a shortage and that I will get a job. Biggest mistake of my life.

  • bullshit

  • There is no such thing as a perfect job. I would rather bust my back helping a person who can't move than bust my back working on a computer for the rest of my life. It's all about perspective, people. :/

  • that does not look promising i finish in a year or so.I dont want to work bedside for the rest of my life

  • hahaha..teachers and school make it sound as if Nursing is the best job ever. But what you learn in class if not what goes on in the real practice. I am hearing horrible stories about nursing from former graduates. :(
