Emmylou Harris performs her song "Big Black Dog" outside The Groove in East Nashville, Tenn., as part of Record Store Day 2010. I missed the first 20 seconds or so of Emmylou telling the story of her dog rescue organization, Bonaparte's Retreat, named for the dog who was her travelling companion for 11 years, but the rest of the performance is all right here.

  • @tommyburgos Glad to have the opportunity to share! It's certainly a worthy cause to support, both through the local rescue organizations in our own home communities and through organizations like Bonaparte's Retreat that are active doing good work locally while also able, through the words and example of wonderful souls like Emmy, to get the message out to a larger audience. All the best to you in the new year!

  • @RNMcKown: OMG, I just went to the BR facebook page and saw the blind bulldog, "Lucky." He is the cutest thing ever.

  • @RNMcKown: Thanks for the info. I didn't keep up with BR, but I will now. This is such an amazing cause. Big hug and blessings. Happy holidays.

  • @tommyburgos Wow! I am envious! And your experience supports everything that I've ever heard about her. Don't know if you follow the activities of Bonaparte's Retreat but they had a parade and fund-raising concert on Saturday (Emmy, Buddy Miller, The Civil Wars) to promote adoption of rescue dogs, and Emmy adopted a 12-yr old blind bull dog that the Metro had taken from his previous owners because they had treated him cruelly. Nice photos on the BR Facebook page. What a lady!

  • @RNMcKown: Absolutely. You know what? I used to live in Green Hills, TN, and I frequented the Green Hills YMCA; she was there once, working out. Now, there she was, a grammy-winning, multiplatinum, millionaire-many-times-over superstar country legend, and yet she was as down-to-earth and humble as my Aunt Sally. I swear, the lady is such a class act and her head has not grown big from her celebrity. I adore her.

  • @tommyburgos Yes, indeed--I had the same reaction after I watched this video clip for the first time several months ago--I've always felt she was a wonderful singer and songwriter, but this really opened my eyes to appreciating Emmy as a person and added Bonaparte's Retreat to my list of organizations to wholeheartedly support.

  • Love this sweet song of hers...

  • great job

  • Enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing! This is one of the songs on her album (Hard Bargain) that was just released yesterday! I'm so enjoying the album!
