The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel,
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides,
and a dark wind blows.

The government is corrupt,
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn.

We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine,
and the machine is bleeding to death.

The sun has fallen down,
and the billboards are all leering,
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles.

It went like this:

The buildings tumbled in on themselves,
mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble,
and pulled out their hair.

The skyline was beautiful on fire,
all twisted metal stretching upwards,
everything washed in a thin orange haze.

I said: "Kiss me, you're beautiful.
These are truly the last days."
You grabbed my hand and we fell into it,
like a daydream or a fever.

We woke up one morning and fell a little further down,
for sure it's the valley of death.

I open up my wallet
and it's full of blood.

  • We were road tripping across the US and I woke up to this song and the two guys in front were just in a daze listening. I had no idea what was going on and just listened. Thanks for showing me who made this song.

Are the lyrics from a book or are they original?

  • I do believe the spoken word is from one of the band member's films that was never finished.

  • Nice, i really like it.. *THUMBS UP*

  • Thanks.

  • this pretty much embodies how I feel when I read 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy

  • This one track inspired a 20k word story. I really wish I wasn't 5 when this came out.

  • Great attempt at conveying a post apocalyptic image through the music. Loving it.

  • omfg

  • awesome awesome awesome

  • Amazing musicianship, just awesome. I have their Yanqui album, but I have to admit I didn't want to move forward from it in fear that they might veer off to some other direction, but I'm glad I was wrong. This song brings to me a picture of loneliness in a great barren field with just an empty, shambled, house staring at sounds of the past, echoes of no longer existing humanity and machinations that somehow.....are no more. The end?

  • this pic looks like its moving

  • @ViceTreat01 ya same i picture a bunch of guys with guns with zombies all around them. and their about to die.

  • @Zarwid i thought it meant something about the civil war?
