She received, unjustly so many negative somments about taking on soprano roles. How many mezzos would have liked to take on all those soprano roles she was able to do soooooo well. A truly talented singer who could perform a wide repertoire as a mezzo or soprano at top level. Glorious.

@meltzerboy Ditto, I couldn't have said it better!!!

She was my favorite Eboli, Lady M, Adaglisa, Elisabetta I, and Seymour ever. A great singing-actress. RIP.

I was hoping she would receive the Kennedy Center Honor in her lifetime. Still, she received many awards and much love from fans who loved her and her glorious voice and artistry. You will never be forgotten La Verrett.

Wonderful singer!!!!, I had the luck to meet her at NY about 15 years ago.She was an explendid and humble person, that shared her knowledge with all us in a free heart giving way. She will be sorely missed...thanks for sharing this extraordinary footage, that will keep her young and pretty, in our hearts. BRAVOOOO!!!!!

Wonderful tribute to a remarkable artist. I can't add anything to what Nate has already written. THANK YOU!

A beautiful tribute to an amazing artist! I recall Shirley Verrett at the outset of her illustrious career when the seeds of greatness were already apparent. She was highly musical in her interpretations, while displaying immense passion in her singing. Moreover, she was exceptionally versatile in her range of roles. A tremendous loss to the world of opera. Thank you, coloraturafan, for commemorating her spirit with this video.

So sad...yet another great soprano gone from us in this decade.
Good night, my queen.
Rest in peace.
Awake in glory.

The BBC seemed to film a lot of these programmes, why on earth dont they release them on DVD. Thank you so much, its great to see these clips just to show everyone what a truly amazing artist she was. So sad as we have lost so many great opera singers from the Golden Era. Thank you x
