SCTV, 1/20/79 - "The Sammy Maudlin Show" - 3/3 - Another clip from "On The Waterfront - Again", with Bobby and Lin Ye Tang's parody of the cab scene between Brando and Rod Steiger - (".... I coulda been a contender!"). The gang sit around, gushing over the movie, and Lin Ye Tang joins them. Joe Flaherty, John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas. (Nice big band sound with closing credits.)

  • chalomirof63 - I see you posted other Sammy Maudlin shows, his anniversary show, and the solid gold telethon among other classics.

thank you thank you thank you

You are the man! (unless you're a woman) These are gems. Just a delight to watch all these great memories again. - wish I could make my living room up like the set of Sammy's show (kind of like Kramer with the Mike Douglas set)

  • You're welcome, and, I'm a woman!! LOL. Franny.

  • He also ranged from tightly wound to completely unraveled as per Alex Trebel - also hilarious (see Half Wits). Remember also Dr. Allen Pearl in "Waiting for Guffman" for his almost eerie staidness and impeccable bad timing. (He wasn't the class clown. Rather, he sat beside the class clown and studied him; and saw what it was that he did to make others laugh).

  • Lol! This was before my time but I LOVE this show! When Sammy slaps his knees and everyone else's it never fails to make me laugh. Great comedians, great comedy.

  • It's a tale of two curtains. Lin Ye Tang.....what an actor....so believable as Charlie.

  • Do you know when something is REALLY funny? ... When even before the character appears, you start laughing! -- re. the anticipation of "Lin Ye Tang" in a cab with Eugene Levy as Marlon Brando -- ROFL!

  • Thanks chalomiro f63! You ARE the man, indeed!

  • They proved that, "Any body, no matter how bad, can act."

  • Devastatingly funny satiric comedy and spot on. Show business is full of egotistical bimbos like Bitman. SCTV is the funniest series ever produced.

  • That band at the end kicks ass!

  • What a great show that was. Saturday Night Live didn't even compare.

  • Too wonderfully funny and sadly gone forever.

  • I love how Bobby still played Bobby even as a "bum"...kept all the rings on!

Wonder where Lin Ye Tang had to rush off to, the Doorway set? Can't decide if I like Sammy better with the big fro or little fro. Either way, Sammy is dynamite and helluva human being!
