I was under the impression that this recording most likely reflected an attempt to delete and overdub Todd out of Nazz III before Stewkey & company proceeded to (re?-)release it, seeing as Todd had left the band by then.
@Avon53 - Acctually, Stewkey sang the lead on "Nazz Nazz", the album where this song first appeared. This is definitely a different (and very inferior) vocal track (the drumming is nothing to write home about either).
I suspect, as you mention, that this was an out-take, likely an earlier take that the band wisely discarded. Sanctuary doesn't do it's listeners any favors by dredging this up (unlike some of the Beatles out-takes, where there is often something of note to hear).
Got all nazz albums on original vinyl first pressings.. This one is not present on Nazz III.. This is the opening track on side on on Nazz Nazz but in a slower phase
This wasn't on the original "Nazz III" release ... but maybe it was on the 2006 re-release on Sanctuary Records that includes a bunch of out-takes? Anyway it's clearly got different vocals than the original. A dubbing error at 2:20 sounds to me like a blatant attempt to remove and replace Todd's solo vocal "bridge" before the final reprise. Kinda interesting, for sure!
I appreciate Galantski's comment.
