Buddha and Nirvana exist in oneself not historical Buddhas or religions.
When the time is right you will enter the truth
not just label it with sanctimonious religion

one of the major reasons the buddhism declined in india,ws the fact tht it ws nt dependent on god but a gr8 man's word, buddhism just gradually gt absorbed by hinduism later on,indians rejected it cz they never tht of it as sumthin different from thr own, buddhism is totally indian product and buddha 100% indian and hindu,he at tht point of time wud nt hav even imagined tht his teachings will be rejected by his own people but embraces by others

Thank you for the long and enlightening reply :). I really appreciate the insight you have provided me on Buddhism as a Hindu AND an Indian :)
I agree that there's no other two religions that tolerate or compliment eachother like Buddhism and Hinduism. Hindu deities have become Buddhism's own and a lot of Buddhists (including me) visit Hindu temples and pray to Hindu dieties often. Its true that Buddha refused the existence of an almighty God but he did accept the existence of dieties.

Dieties who are of higher mental/spiritual states of mind than the layman. And he also said that a person whos's engaged in rightousness wil always earn the blessings of those dieties and it will support the wellbeing of that layman.
AND another thing is that I don't think Buddhism is chnaged that much from those times. There could be various 'versions' like Mahayana etc but true Buddhism will always be there even if it might be less followed.

c dude hindusim and buddhism compliment each other really well, its just 2 different names for 2 similar philosophies although both r a little divergent in practise, but very much similiar, buddha condemned the various rituals present in the vedas but nt the vedas overall, brahmins then also condemned him and wer afraid of him n wer nt able to figure out what he actually meant,at one point india had become totally buddhist, but later on hinduism absorbed it

unlik the jews who crucified jesus for speaking against sum tenets of judaism or claiming to be son of god, hindus respected buddha n made him an avatr of vishnu, thts the difference, ancient india ws more or less very tolerant of othr faiths,n morever hindus nevr saw buddhism as sumthin radically different othr thn thr own,a true hindu will always rever buddha, coz he ws a gr8 man, buddha's teachings lay the foundation 4 modern day hinduism

indian religions r more or less philosophies n nt religions in full sense lik abrahamic 1's,they accept d existence of othr faiths n believe in mutual co-existence,dont claim 2 be d only way n are very pluralistic, unlik abrahamic religions who hv a history of bloodshed n forceful conversions, buddhism is a gr8 religion as well as hinduism, buddha was a gr8 guy,i respect him a lot,n feel really proud tht such a gr8 man ws born in my religion n my country, and graced us with his enlightened thoughts
