Bob Dylan broke into the big time thanks to his exposure at Gerdes Folk City in the early sixties. He was very focused on making it in music. But he had an idol... Woody Guthrie. I was there the second time he opened at Gerdes Folk City in NYC. This video was featured on the website "expecting rain"

  • Here is a little video I did about Doc Watson at Gerdes. There were so many fine performers who got their start there. Another one was Tom and Jerry who changed the name of their group to Simon & Garfunkel.

  • @benardna I heard the April 61 performance when he opened for John Lee. Hooker was one of my favorites. I did a little video about Hooker which I will post here. The only other venue where I heard Dylan at the time was the City Hall concert where he did a knock out version of "Hard Rain Is Goin't Fall. Thanks for the kind words. Those were great days for live music. Both folk and jazz.

  • I really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing. When you heard him the second time he appeared at Gerdes was this when he opened for John Lee Hooker (Apr '61) or the Greenbriar Boys (Sep/Oct '61)? Do you remember any songs that he sang? Would love to hear more about any Dylan appearances that you saw. Thanks again!
