Dear Friends,

Lien Tran was a 7-year-old girl living at Hoa Hong orphanage, Cu Chi, Vietnam. She had Down syndrome and was diagnosed with congenital heart defects. Dr. Phan Nguyen, Dean of the Cardiology department at the Heart Institute strongly recommended immediate open heart surgery to save her life. If the surgery was delayed, her condition would deteriorate and thus limit future treatment options. The cries for help of Sr. My Nguyen a Director of the orphanage reached Lua Viet staff on the Medical Mission in Vietnam last Mach. With much care and quick response from many donors, Lien had an open heart surgery in April 2009 at Trieu An Heart Institute in Saigon. The total cost of her operation was $2,500 not including the time and efforts of many volunteering students in Vietnam who took turn to stay with her around the clock during and after the surgery. Lien is currently doing well as a child of her age, according to Sr. Nguyen. For the last many weeks, she did not hear any night cry from Liens nightmares or difficult breathing any more.

There are other Vietnamese children who are not as fortunate as Lien; these children are still suffering from heart defects while their families make only $1 or $2 a day. Their survival is on the thread if no one comes to their assistance.

We are grateful for many generous people who make constant efforts to assist us in helping these children.

For the last 2 months, Tricia Nguyen, a New York City Marathon runner, Calvin Tran, a fashion designer (http://calvintran.com), Hung Huynh, a Vietnamese-American chef, Yumi Kim, a fashion designer (http://yumikim.com), and many friends of Lua Viet in New York City and New Jersey have joined efforts to present an evening gathering of elegance and style, with much love and compassion, called The Benefit Event for Children in Need of Open Heart Surgery in Vietnam. Our goal from this event is to help 5 children to have open heart surgeries.

We are honored to invite you and your friends to this evening filled with fashion & compassion at:
