The second installment of four songs by the Blackwood Brothers and the Statesmen Quartet with Hovie Lister includes, by the Statesmen, "Just A Little While," and "Love Is Why." Both songs show the quartet during their prime, this time with Rosie, Jake, Doy, the Big Chief, and Hovie. The Blackwoods feature "I Get Happy," a rousing handclapper, and the now standard, "I Met The Master." The records that are flipped through during the video are but part of each of the groups catalog. Most of these will never be reprinted in any other form. The Blackwood Brothers have a large compilation that is worth checking into if you are a serious fan. These two groups traveled and sang together much of the time during the 1950's and into the early 1960's and members remained friends until their passing, at one time forming The Masters Five, with James Blackwood, Rosie Rozell, Jake Hess, J. D. Sumner, and Hovie Lister. This IS quartet singing! ! ! Anything else is what I commonly refer to as "fluff" - which you hear a lot of today. Here there are no fancy orchestrations, digital keyboards, or back-up band - just four guys (who can really sing), and a piano! If I were you I'd turn the volume up!
Then I Met The Master, now I belong to Him.....
a very touching hymn, and I believe the Blackwoods
were the first to record this wonderful number....

Excellent. I have a few of their old albums, some CD's and some videos. Two of my favorite groups. Thanks for sharing this.
