HandMidi is a device that sends midi notes depending on how close your hand is to the optical sensor.... you could call it a "midi theremin". In this video I've used it instead to control the FILTER on a synth in Ableton, and I'm playing the notes on the Korg nanoKey. So as I lift the actual nanoKey into the air the filter opens up on the synth!

The notes are converted to CC messages using a couple of PizMidi's plugins.

I got the HandMidi off eBay, highly recommended, the guy who sells it also made a video of it here:

  • Have the keys popped out as yet?

  • one popped out the first day i got it.. but it's not that hard to slot back in once you get the hang of it.......................

  • I would love to see Jordan Rudess on that thing.

  • yes... if only there was a video... somewhere.... of him playing this thing uploaded somewhere... hmmmm..... ;-)

  • does the keyboard feel like a toy to you: fragile and delicate? Or is it nice and sturdy: something that can take a fair amount of beating?

  • hmm... somewhere in between....
