Whitney: *walks in the kitchen of Witley-Whiteley Manor*
Zoey: Hey, Whitney!
Whitney: *ignores her, gets her Cheerios out*
Zoey: *sighs*
Zoeys POV
See, its been like this ever since I moved into Witley-Whiteley Manor, six years ago. When my mom married her dad, making me her step sister, shes been...hostile toward me. My best friend, Chelsie Houston, thinks its because I moved into her territory uninvited. But I just think its because shes a witch with a b with major attitude issues. Were both 16 now. I moved in when I was 10. I think its time we bury the hatchet.
Zoey: Whitney, I was talking to you.
Whitney: I heard.
Zoey: Well when someone says hi, youre supposed to say hi back.
Whitney: And when someone drops numerous hints that they want you out of their house and out of their life, youre supposed to pick up on them.
Zoey: Whitney, what did I do to you?
Whitney: *ignores her*
Mr. and Mrs. Whiteley: *walk in* Good morning, girls.
Whitney: Morning, Momma. *kisses her mom on the cheek* Morning, Mitch. *hugs him* *A/N: Mitch is Zoeys dad*
Whitneys POV
I dont like to be mean to Zoey. She seems nice. But Im a person who thinks that things that are mine, should stay mine. We even had to change the name of our estate to Witley-Whiteley Manor! Do you even KNOW how stupid that sounds? Im just so glad that Zoeys so desperate for my acceptance that she wont tell my mom and Mitch (Mitch! Dont even get me STARTED on him! I HATE Mitch!) how Im acting towards her.
Mitch: Cheerios again, Whitney? Why dont you have some Cocoa Puffs with me and your mother?
Whitney: Um, ew. That stuff makes me want to dry heave. Do you even KNOW how many carbs is in one bowl of those icky things?
Mrs. Whiteley: *shoots Whitney a dont-be-a-bwitch look*
Whitney: Sorry, Mitch.
AT SCHOOL
Serena: *to Whitney* There you are!
Whitney: Sor-ry! Mom kept me in the car to give me a "dont be hostile toward Mitch because hes the best thing thats ever happened to me. Just because I married him doesnt mean hes trying to replace your father" speech. Does she think that Im acting like this because I think Mitch is trying to take my dads place? Shes wrong! I act like that because I HATE MITCH! I dont even miss slash remember slash think about Dad!
Whitneys POV
Lie. Total lie. Complete lie. Ok, my dad died in a car accident, like, seven years back. And I remember him so much it hurts. I think about him every second of every minute of every hour of every day. And I miss him more than anything.
Zoeys POV
When Whitneys being like she was this morning, I think about Mom and how things would be different if she were still around. Her name was Lydia. She died about the same time Whitneys dad died (our parents met at a grief seminar), and Whit and I were the same age (9). Lydia was on her way to visit her parents (my grandparents) in Florida when her plane crashed in a forest. No one survived. I dont necessarily hate Jenny (my step-mom). I dislike her a bit because she reminds me of Lydia. I think thats why Dad married her.
???: Zoey!
Zoey: Huh? What? Oh. Hey, Chelsie.
Chelsie: Ive been standing her for like 10 minutes trying to get your attention.
Zoey: Sorry Chels. Come on, lets go to first period.
AT LUNCH LATER THAT DAY
Mary Ellis and Aphrodite: *sit down with Zoey and Chelsie* Hey guys.
Zoey: *kinda far away* Hey.
Mary Ellis: *whispers to Chelsie* Whats wrong with her?
Chelsie: I have no clue, shes been like that since she got here.
Zoey: You two arent good at whispering.
Mary Ellis: Sorry, Z. So why are you upset?
Zoey: Just missing my mom right now.
Aphrodite: But didnt you just see her when you got here?
Chelsie: I think she means Lydia.
Zoey: *nods slowly and sadly* Whitney was in another one of her Moods this morning.
Aphrodite: Will you stop trying to be that malicious girls friend? Look, if she doesnt accept Zoey Whiteley for who she is, then thats her loss.
Zoey: Whit didnt inflict this. She supported the coming of it, but didnt inflict it.
