Within the wider Local Govenance Support Project ran by the Government of Bangladesh and The World Bank, UNDP and UNCDF together with the European Union and DANIDA have been implementing a Learning and Innovation Component (LIC) that aims at further piloting and innovating in ways to promote poverty reduction and MDG achievement through building the basic service delivery capacities of Union Parishads, the lowest tier of the Local Government in Bangladesh. The LGSP-LIC is strengthening the capacity of UPs and feeding learning and innovations into the broader LGSP and national policies. As a pilot initiative, this component is being implemented in 388 Unions of 41 Upazilas under Sirajganj, Hobiganj, Satkhira, Feni, Narsingdi and Barguna Districts, spread over the 6 Divisions of Bangaldesh.
