John Logie Baird the Scot who invented a system of television that didnt work properly showed it first in this house in Frith Street, just down from where I got my haircut. Hmmm. Well the television bit is impressive. Further down the street Mozart played or at least a plaque on the wall says.
I have 2 films on YouTube about John Logie Baird's First television demonstration. Both houses claim to be the place where it took place. Surely they can't both be the right place? Either it is this one - Frith Street or the other one on the way to Covent Garden. This film is much clearer than the other one!
It did work. The problem was that as he was restricted to a very narrow bandwidth the maximum number of lines he could get was 30. Baird demonstrated televisions of up to 600 lines and in colour.
